Court Update Newsletter June 9, 2021

Hi everyone,

The renovations at Kerr Park have been delayed because of the weather and supply issues. The Town and contractors are optimistic that they will be completed in the next 2 weeks, provided the weather cooperates. This means we need to adapt our plan for beginning league play this Monday.

The Board met today and decided, based on this information, that we would tentatively begin Scheduled League Play for the months of June and July on Monday, June 21 (on courts 1 and 2).

This means anyone who wants to be on the June and/or July schedule must submit their application and the Treasurer must receive their membership fee by the end of the day Monday June 14

Here is a link to the application. The application includes instructions on how to pay your membership fee:BTC membership application

The Schedulers will receive a list of players in their groups by the end of the day Tuesday, June 15, and will send out Doodle polls to all registered players. Turnaround time will be quick, so please complete your Doodle poll by the deadline set by your scheduler to be on the schedule for June and/or July.

Even though courts 1 and 2 have yet to be renovated, there is a possibility the nets on those courts will be up next week. We will let you know if they go up and if the courts are available.

If the nets do go up we suggest arranging games within your groups at the times your group would normally play. For example, if you are registered for the Advanced Mixed Doubles Group you could arrange your own games with other players in that group on Monday and Wednesday between 3 and 6 pm, and Friday morning between 9 and 11 am. If other players from your group show up while you are playing, please rotate them in as we would during Show Up ‘n Play.

You can also arrange your own games during Club or Show Up ‘n Play times. If other members are waiting to play during Club Time, please limit your play to 45 minutes or rotate them in. If it’s during Show Up ‘n Play time, please rotate them in.

The schedule will be posted at the courts, and is available on our website: BTC 2021 schedule

Doubles play is allowed, but please adhere to the gathering limit of 4 players per court (8 players in total). If more players are at the courts they should wait outside the courts and be physically distanced from each other.

A reminder to please practice good COVID safety and remember to:

  • Maintain a physical distance of 2 meters.
  • Bring hand sanitizer and use it often.
  • Bring lots of water with you.
  • Avoid touching your face, benches, nets and posts.
  • Handshakes, high-fives and/or elbow taps are not recommended. A simple thumbs up from a distance is a recommended alternative.

We will be posting a sign at the courts letting the public know that the courts are reserved for the Bracebridge Tennis Club during our designated times, and that pickleball players should play at Kelvin Grove until the renovations are completed. If pickleball players show up while you are playing during club time you can graciously redirect them to Kelvin Grove for the time being.  Once the renovations are completed courts 1, 2 and 3 will be designated for BTC during our scheduled times, and court 4 will be a combination public court with tennis and pickleball lines.

We may experience brief interruptions in court availability while Kerr Park is being renovated, but we have been reassured they will be short.

We know the beginning to this season has been frustrating for some, but we are looking forward to having 3 beautiful, new courts to play on, and the possibilities this new location offers BTC for the future. And celebrating this new beginning together later in the season.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Secretary, Bracebridge Tennis Club
